At this, our most festive time of year I thought I'd just see what sort of traditions we have across the world, or just personal things you do.

I hide/get out of the house to avoid the insanely large amount of nieces and nephews making an ungodly amount of noise. Does that count?

If they wanted to play football or go hunting in a forest then my Uncleing skills would be unmatched but they don't wanna do that yet. I'm working on it though.

aww thats very sweet of you Matt (i think) i'm up for a bit of tramping through the snowy woods if you want

i was lucky enough to pretty much get snow every christmas as a kid AND get the "off you go home kiddiepops" which was even better!

Classical music and piano playing was a plenty in our house but it was generally only ever Mummy Bubbles, Daddy Bubbles and Baby Bubbles so it was generally a quiet affair

For five years it was a tradition that me and some chums would go away for New Year - somewhere different every year. Sadly that tradition died and our last venture was to Lisbon for 2006/07.
I still had fun in 2007/08 sleeping in Frizz's attic and running away from fireworks - this year I'm at a complete loose end. Hopefully I'll be at my friends' house playing Rock Band or similar - otherwise I'll be at home thinking about how I should be out having fun, or I'll be out fighting crowds thinking how I want to be at home playing on the computer or watching movies.

Christmas eve (24th) is kind of the main event here in Estonia. Usually that means spending the evening with family, presents and truckloads of foodage (such a great word introduced into the english language by one K.Pilkington) et cetera. So there's no special "christmas morning" as such with presents or anything like what I've heard is the case in some (most?) parts of the world. 25th is just a ho-hum free day. This year I took the car and went around people's homes giving presents to the dearest of friends. That was loads of fun.
There's hardly any rituals for New Year's Eve. Well ok, maybe the fireworks. I'd like to pick up on Rose's idea of going away for New Year's in the future. This year it was just spending the night drinking wine at a friend's place until the wee hours of the morning and discussing the state of the world :P

i think that the estonian christmas thing sounds lovely mani!  can i come to yours for chritmas next year please?

i would say though that regardless of where your from the street party they have in edinburgh every year is worth it.  really nice and nice friendly atmosphere but i too am won over by the going to somewhere different every year sounds awesome.

where was the best place you went rose?

The best place I went (not counting running away from fireworks while sleeping in Frizz's attic) - hands down New York City! Though the New Year celebrations themselves were better in Berlin...
