Posted 18/01/2007 08:32:49 PM | | A ranger is one of the most useful classes in Hell's Precipice - everything is vulnerable to cold damage. Winter turns all elemental damage to cold damage. Greater Conflagration turns all physical damage to fire damage.
If you are doing this mission for the first time, you can capture Greater Conflagration while you're there and use another elite (Punishing Shot or Barrage, for example) giving you the rare joy of two elite skills in one mission.
Skills
Winter (Wilderness Survival)
Greater Conflagration (Elite, Wilderness Survival)
Crossfire (Marksmanship)
Savage Shot (Marksmanship)
Storm Chaser (Wilderness Survival)
Healing Spring (Wilderness Survival)
Troll Unguent (Wilderness Survival)
Rebirth (Protection Prayers)
Usage
Ideally, whenever you are attacking a group of foes, you need to be under the effects of Winter. Cast both spirits before your group engages in combat. While attacking, use Storm Chaser to reap the energy benefits from being hit with elemental damage. If your group is headed for a party wipe (which I've seen happen many times in this mission) use Storm Chaser to get out of trouble - when it is safe, get in range to use rebirth. Before casting rebirth, set Healing Spring (a trap)and then rebirth. Healing Spring will speed up the health regeneration of your party, and if your party is near you while in combat it gives a slight boost and helps to conserve your monks' energy a little.
If you are confident in your party's abilities (or you are giving this build to a hero ranger), you may wish to swap Healing Spring for another spirit (Favourable Winds or Winnowing). The bow attacks are merely suggestions - you may wish to swap them for something else.
Attributes
Wilderness Survival 12 + (1-3)
Marksmanship 12 + (1-3)
Expertise 3 + 1
If Storm Chaser is used as a means of gaining energy, the energy cost of skills is of less concern so Expertise can be lower allowing your Wilderness Survival spirits to live longer and your bow attacks to do more damage.
Equipment
Your favourite bow
Wilderness Survival and Marksmanship runes
Fur lined armour (becomes more effective but your regular armour should be fine).
